BOOK REVIEW:
In early 18th century England, life is adverse even for the nobility. Long-distance travel is atrocious, and superstitions are rife, especially in the remote Northern moors. Bailey Smith is a skeptical young servant in the employ of superstition-ridden Lady Denholm, paying no heed to her fears of The Shadow, a ghostly long-dead highwayman who haunts the Leamington Crossroads and its environs.
Bailey has already experienced his share of unfortunate violence but still is unprepared for the robbery and murders of the coachman and Lady Denholm, which upend his life and throw him into a tailspin of changes. But change can bring good even out of the most horrible circumstances, and Bailey will begin to discover mysteries, suspense, lust, and even love.
